As regular readers of these pages will know, Toulouse holds a special place in our interests. Francoise Felix Tisserand was appointed as director of the observatory and effectively put the observatory "back on the map".
Under his direction, the observatory became a world centre for asteroid detection and research and detection. Less well known, the observatory was one of the key sites working on the Carte du Ciel programme.
The facility continued to undertake advanced scientific research until 1981 when light pollution from the city became too invasive, and much of the work was transferred to the wonderful Observatoire du Pic du Midi in the high Pyrenees.
