We offer the following courses:
 
The Nature and Reality of Asteroids
A 4-week course looking at:


  • The nature of the asteroids, identification and the ongoing history of their discovery
  • Asteroid orbits, gravitational and non-gravitational changes and collisional dynamics
  • Asteroid families, their composition and relationship to comets
  • The genesis of the asteroids and impact events on Earth
 
No previous knowledge of astronomy is required to enjoy and understand this course.

The Sun – our Star
An 8-week course looking at:


  • The Sun and determination of the scale of the solar system
  • Solar radiation and the underlying physics
  • Power generation within the Sun and the solar lifespan
  • The structure of the Sun, convection processes, pressure, density and temperature
  • The Sun’s rotation, magnetic field and helioseismology
  • Observation and features of the Sun
  • Nebulae and the formation of the Sun
  • Solar evolution and destiny
 
This course will be taught at an introductory level but to get the most from this course, it would be beneficial for participants to have some background knowledge (equivalent to high school science)
